|The Sierra Lines|
This railroad was recently dismantled due to a pending move.
The Sierra Lines is an exact model (with some compression) of the way it would have been on April 1, 1954, given the long expected Richter 8.4 earthquake in the California Sierras in 1948. Subsequent to the earthquake, Dr. Arthur Smith, sole stockholder of the Sierra Lines, put together an amalgamation of the Southern Pacific Lines, The Virginia City & Truckee River Railroad, The Western Pacific Railroad, the Lodestone, Sierra, and Incline Village Railroad, and the Sierra Central Lines.
Route Map of the Sierra Lines
|Superintendent:||Dr. Arthur Smith|

|Control System/Operating System:||Digitrax wireless throttles|
|Car Forwarding:||Rail Op computer generated switch lists|
|Mainline:||280 feet, with branchlines of 30 feet and 70 feet|
|Crew Size:||11 crew max., each with their own throttle and train(s)|
|Yardmaster:||4 yards, switched by Road Crews|
|Road Crews:||11, each with their own throttle|
|Dispatcher:||Dr. Arthur Smith|
Approximately 900 square feet, walk-in, around the walls, one peninsula, with 13 towns to switch, over 250 structures, 600+ cars, most engines with sound, some steam, code 100 track with 220 Peco (manual) and 23 Atlas (motorized) turnouts. Towns and switching areas include Sacramento, The Docks, The Industrial Park, Marysville, Chico, Red Bluff, Blackwater Junction, Truckee, Incline Village, Auburn, Donner Summit, and Lodestone.
Each of the 5 railroads have a Corporate Culture, which every one is expected to read and act accordingly. 2 engineers are assigned to each railroad, each engineer with their own throttle, town to switch, and computer generated (RAIL OP) switchlist(s). Some cooperation with your fellow employee is required for some of the time. The 11th crew member runs mixed freight with switching along the way around the layout, and might run passenger and/or ore trains with switching also required. If requested, some trains with little or no switching can be run. The 5 railroads interchange with each other (theoretically) in staging (Sparks in the East, Stockton in the West). It is possible to run continuously without restaging, assuming everyone has zero defects.
