Below is the overall
plan of the layout for “The Central Divisions.” Currently bench work for
the larger peninsula is not completed, but keep an eye on this web site
as updates will show that progress. The Van Buren Industrial Park
currently has industries under construction, with track operational.
Part of the South Fort Smith peninsula should be operational in February
2010, bringing the KCS into “live interchange” status and allowing some
southbound traffic by the Frisco.
The SLSF track charts show North Fort
Smith as District 100. The yard area and downtown businesses north of
the depot and Garrison Avenue bridge made up District 200. Interchange
with the Missouri Pacific and Kansas City Southern take place in
District 300. District 400 will be constructed later in 2010.
Until the large peninsula is
completed, the Frisco cannot make a complete run to South Staging. The
Missouri Pacific does have the ability to run through Van Buren from
East and West Staging. Although only a basic loop around the layout
room, this trip is 4.5 scale miles. |
