The Columbia Cascade Railway is free
lanced layout based on the Pacific Northwest in late 1970's era of
Burlington Northern, Milwaukee Road, Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific and
two small short lines, Bridgeport Terminal and the Port Angeles Terminal Railway. The
communities are tightly packed into a larger metropolitan area bordering
on the pacific coast. The railroads deal with heavy port
activities in inter-modal, grain and general cargo to a multitude of
industries in the surrounding communities and share a lot of the same trackage due to the heavy density of population & urban sprawl. The area covers
less than 50 prototypical miles and ruling speed are 30-35 mph.
Each railroad has its own yard with trains originating from the Cascade
Yard in Portland
(west) and Columbia Yard in Spokane (east) for the BN, Seattle (west) for the UP,
Squamish (west) for the CP, and Black River (east) for the Milwaukee.
Switch list and trains run under a car card system created by Shenware.
Operation is using Digitrax, with 14 wireless, throttles. 99% of the track is now in place and fully operational,
with several identified changes yet to be made in track work. Just a
little scenery is in place, although a number of structures and
structures mock ups are finding home on the layout.
The layouts currently has over 70+ locos with decoders and a large number with sound, and over
800 freight cars.
The layout covers over 1400 square feet and takes 10-12 operators at a session. Amtrak will
eventually run and we will go on a clock. |
