Larkspur is a busy interchange and the
end terminal for the Union Pacific. From here they run
interchange traffic with the Milwaukee at Heritage and the Columbia
Terminal Port Railway over on the other side of Vancouver.
This is a busy yard and has a permanent switcher or two that stay busy most of the
time. Larkspur Industrial District is heavy in Grain, produce, and
home of the largest warehouse distribution center for the Northland
corporation, owners of the countries 6-10 convenience stores. The
UP has a daily transfers to all the other Railroads in the area. |

Looking east toward
the Larkspur UP yard. To the left is the Larkspur Grain Co-op, and
business is beginning to bustle as harvest is just beginning.

Behind us is the UP
engine facilities and a long switching lead used to break up freights.
The yard has caboose tracks at both end of the yard. In heavy
harvest season, the yard runs two switcher and crews to handle the
volume, working 24/7. To the right is the long spur for the
Northland Corporation. |
